New Research Evidences Amla Fruit’s Powerful Health Benefits
25 Nov 2013 --- Taiyo is bringing the long heritage of ayurvedic medicine to a scientifically researched, functional ingredient that is suited to a wide range of food, beverage and supplement applications. New clinical research published in the British Journal of Nutrition provides a scientific mechanistic basis for the traditional use of the amla fruit in anti-inflammatory and anticoagulant activity.
For the first time, the research evaluates the potential use of SunAmla amla fruit extract for the treatment or prevention of cardiovascular disorder. Poor endothelial cell function has been linked to hypertension, arterial and venous thrombosis, and artherosclerosis. The effects of amla fruit extract were measured in vitro on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced tissue factor expression in human umbilical endothelial cells. In addition, a LPS-induced endotoxaemia rat model was used to evaluate the anti-inflammatory effects of amla fruit extract in vivo.
The amla fruit extract significantly reduced LPS-induced tissue factor expression and, in a leucocyte adhesion model of inflammation, significantly decreased LPS-induced adhesion of human monocytic cells to human umbilical vein endothelial cells. In the LPS-induced endotoxaemia rat model, oral administration of amla fruit extract significantly decreased concentrations of pro-inflammatory cytokines compared with the control group. The combined anti-inflammatory and anticoagulant activities of amla may help prevent and treat a variety of vascular disorders including thrombosis and poor blood pressure.
In Ayurveda, amla is a potent rasayana for the treatment and prevention of inflammatory disease. Metabolic, digestive and immune functions also benefit from the amla’s natural properties. SunAmla offers a powerful combination of nutrients including vitamin C, polyphenols gallic acid and ellagic acid, minerals, fibres, proteins and amino acids, and complex structured tannins recognised for their antioxidant , anti-carcinogenic , cytoprotective , anti-diabetic and antimicrobial properties.
